K had to take a "Seusstastic" snack to school today to share with her class. After emailing with her teacher I was assigned to do something fruit. I never take the east route...I should have gone with Grinchy kiwi's or Seussy Strawberries, but nope I had to take it to the creative level. I thought long and hard for 2 days what I could drum up. I searched the Internet, glanced through pictures on pintrest but I didn't find anything that I liked that made me happy.
So I thought of all of the red fruit available....then the white fruit that wouldn't turn brown by the end of the day. Red wasn't a problem, use watermelon, white on the other hand starts to brown after awhile.....no matter how much you have treated it with something acidic. So I went with cheese. Yep mozzarella cheese is a nice white color and is appealing with the youngsters.
I took a white lolly stick and threaded it with watermelon and cheese and turned out these cute little hats. First used a marshmallow to keep it up, but that melted pretty quickly with all of the juice, so i switched it up to a tootsie roll. Next time I need to plan ahead and get the white ones, but I used what I raided from the candy jar, thank goodness for all the parades and trick or treating.
They were a big hit with the kids, and I guess the teachers and principals too, and although time consuming they made me happy. I liked that they turned out a little wonky because thats the way the cat rolls ya know....
