We have really started to try and reduce our "footprint" in the world as a family. It hasn't really been a hard thing to do at all, and the kids really like to do it.
We have curbside recycling every 2 weeks, and believe me we have way more recycling than trash. We really could see the recycle man every week and be very happy about it. On the other hand it's really sad that we have that many people just continuing to throw everything away. Proudly, our family of four kicks out one....just ONE bag of trash per week. That includes diapers and kitty litter too.
Kira asked the babysitter the other day where her recycling was to put the empty toilet paper roll, and when we were at Popeye's the other day she noticed that the lid could be recycled so she made sure to bring that lid home to put in our recycling can.
It's not hard to teach your kids about recycling, and we've kinda made it into a game. Kira is always checking for arrows on everything, and now knows that most things can be recycled. She is also the one in charge of carrying in the reusable bags to the store, which we have been doing for a year and a half now......BEFORE it became popular, ha ha!
We need to make sure to continue with the momentum of clean green living!! We aren't hippies, but we feel good about what we are doing to make our world last just a little bit longer!
